Details: John Coltrane, Miles Davis, and Thelonious Monk often composed and performed pieces in jazzy swing grooves but rarely wrote pieces in specific Latin rhythmic grooves like Rumba, Samba, Cha Cha Cha, Boléro, or Bossa Nova. But if you love jazz, you won’t be surprised to hear that their compositions often lend themselves to interpretation with a Latin tinge. Carl and friends revisit classics by Davis, Monk, and Coltrane, adding in pieces by Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter. This concert is eligible for The Shedd’s “Free Shedd Jazz Student Ticket” program, which makes a limited number of free admissions to select 2017-18 Shedd jazz concerts available to any student elementary through college.
