SUPREME SCENES WITH MELISSA HART
When: 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays, Jan. 30; Feb. 6, 13, 20, 27; March 6
Description: “Supreme Scenes: The Building Blocks of Story.” Compelling fiction and nonfiction depend on scene-setting. This lively and supportive class will teach you to create richly-detailed scenes regardless of whether you’re working on novels, short stories, memoir, feature articles, or profiles. Participants will study published scenes and create their own during in-class assignments designed to inspire complete manuscripts. We’ll focus on characterization, dialogue, setting, sensory details and conflict so that you come away with a solid sense of how to use scenes as your building blocks for any writing project. The workshop will include: weekly readings, in-class and out-of-class writing, and group workshop and discussion in a supportive and inspiring environment.

YOUR OWN HERO’S JOURNEY: RECORDING THE EPIC STORY OF YOUR LIFE WITH BRONWYNN DEAN

Description: “Your Own Hero’s Journey: Recording the Epic Story of Your Life.” Mine your life for the gems that make up your unique tale. This class will guide you through the steps of recording your own epic story. Starting from identifying obstacles that changed you to a compelling resolution where you can share the wisdom you’ve gained. The process is suitable for both nonfiction and fiction writers of all levels of experience. We will read both classic archetypal journeys and modern interpretations to familiarize ourselves with the universality of struggle and the writer’s urge to make meaning out of it. The workshop will include: weekly readings, in-class and out-of-class writing, and group workshop and discussion in a supportive and inspiring environment.

MOTIVATION MASTERY: MOVING BEYOND INTERNAL STOPPING POINTS WITH MICHAEL MICHEL
When: 7:00-9:00 p.m. on Wednesdays, Jan. 31; Feb. 7, 21, 28; March 7, 14 (no class Feb. 14)
Description: “Motivation Mastery: Moving Beyond Internal Stopping Points.” The most important story you will ever write is about YOU and what you bring to the work you love. Through a blend of live group coaching, training, and exercises, you will leave this course equipped with the skills necessary to write the next chapter of your life’s narrative. This course is designed to deliver a fresh perspective and help you uncover who you truly are as a writer. With a professional coach at your side, a supportive group of peers cheering you on, and simple effective tools at your disposal, you have the opportunity to change your writing game. This course will be limited to 9 participants.

INTRO TO FICTION WITH LINDA S. CLARE

Description: “Intro To Fiction.” Got stories? Get started writing fiction! Whether you’re working on a novel, a memoir, short stories or if you’re a brand-new writer, this fun, introductory class focuses on fiction basics such as creating characters, settings, writing in scenes, using dialogue and managing time, as well as ideas for building a writing life. We’ll inspire each other with imaginative ideas and a solid foundation of writing skills for any genre. Participants will study published fiction and work toward producing a fiction story. Class may be taken as a stand-alone or as Part One of Two Intro to Fiction workshops. The workshop will include: weekly readings, in-class and out-of-class writing, and group workshop and discussion in a supportive and inspiring environment.
